General
What makes Oryx different from other practice management solutions?
Oryx was created by dentists for dentists, and this is evident throughout the software. The clinical module within Oryx is exceptional, setting it apart from the rest. By incorporating evidence-based dentistry from the Kois Center, Oryx enhances your documentation, diagnosis, and case presentation, leading to increased case acceptance. Additionally, Oryx’s patient engagement tools and enhanced patient experience help set your office apart from the crowd, ensuring you provide the best possible care for your patients.
Will I still need IT in my office?
All IT support for Oryx will be handled by our team. Oryx performs multiple daily auto-backups and constant vulnerability scans to ensure your data is secure. You will only need IT support in your office for non-Oryx related issues. Most offices have IT support available on an as-needed basis for other technical matters.

Pricing
How much does Oryx cost?
The price of Oryx can vary depending on where you are located (U.S., Canada, or International), how many locations you have, how many doctors are practicing in the office, and what level of Oryx will work best for your office. The best way to get pricing specific to your office is to review that with your sales specialist in a demo. You can get high-level pricing information here.
Since Oryx is so comprehensive, is it more expensive than other solutions?
No! You might be surprised to learn that because Oryx offers an all-in-one solution, most offices end up paying about 2-3 times less than they would with an on-premise solution plus add-ons. This cost-effectiveness, combined with its comprehensive features, makes Oryx a great value for your practice.

Features
What is the difference between cloud-based and server-based?
The difference between cloud-based and server-based systems lies in how the software is hosted and accessed. Cloud-based dental software is hosted on remote servers maintained by the software provider. It is accessible via the internet from any device, providing flexibility and mobility. This type of software offers automatic updates, data backup, and scalability, with the software provider handling the underlying infrastructure, so users do not need to manage or maintain it.
On the other hand, server-based dental software, also known as on-premises software, is installed and hosted on servers located within your dental practice. It is typically accessed and run on local computers or devices within your office network, requiring users to connect to the software within the local network. This setup requires the dental practice to have its own server infrastructure, including hardware, networking, and security measures, and the responsibility for managing and maintaining the servers, data backup, and security rests with the dental practice.
Key Differences:
- Accessibility: Cloud-based software allows users to access the system from any location with an internet connection, offering more flexibility and mobility. Server-based software is limited to the office network and requires physical presence in the practice to access the system.
- Infrastructure and Maintenance: Cloud-based software eliminates the need for practices to manage their own servers and infrastructure, as the provider handles server maintenance, updates, and data backups. Server-based software requires the practice to invest in and maintain their own server infrastructure.
- Scalability and Updates: Cloud-based software can easily scale as your practice grows, and updates and new features are generally rolled out by the provider automatically. In server-based systems, scalability may be limited by the capacity of the local servers, and software updates may require manual installation and maintenance.

Can I specify what each employee can do in the software?
Yes, you can assign specific roles and functions for each user in Oryx. Each user can be given read, write, and delete privileges based on their role. Additionally, for logging in outside of the office, we use two-factor authentication with a rolling key. This ensures secure access and allows you to control whether access outside the office is permitted for each user.

This integration streamlines the process, making it efficient and easy to manage insurance claims.

Oryx has a patient portal. How does that work?
Each patient can register for their MyChart account, allowing you to securely share documents to their patient portal. Through the portal, patients can complete medical and dental histories, sign consent forms, view and sign treatment plans, book appointments online, and even pay their bills. This feature enhances the patient experience by providing a convenient and secure way to manage their healthcare information.
I have heard about Oryx’s Risk Assessment reports. How are these created and shared with the patient?
Oryx’s Risk Assessment reports are compiled from the information patients enter in their medical and dental histories, along with the data from office charts. These reports are automatically generated and help patients understand their oral health risks, enabling them to make informed decisions about their dental care. The reports can be shown to patients in the office, printed out, or shared through the patient portal.

Additionally, Oryx features a user-friendly dashboard that displays your office metrics, such as production and collection, new patients, upcoming scheduled visits, the types of procedures driving your production, case acceptance, and recare. The dashboard can be filtered by date or individual provider, providing you with detailed insights tailored to your needs.
Can I send out email and marketing campaigns within Oryx?
Yes! You can easily send emails to your entire patient base or filter your audience to target specific groups for your marketing campaigns. This flexibility allows you to effectively communicate and engage with your patients.
Onboarding and Implementation
What happens after I sign up?
After you sign up, you will be assigned an onboarding specialist. You will learn about the process, how to customize your software, set up training and get conversions done (if needed). When your office is ready, we will set your launch date, which is the day you begin to use Oryx in your practice with patients.
How long does it take to start using Oryx in my office?
It’s important to give yourself enough time to complete training and feel comfortable with the software before you start using it in your office. If you are starting fresh without any patient data, we recommend about three weeks to get up to speed. However, if you need to convert existing data into Oryx, plan for about six to eight weeks. This extra time helps ensure everything is set up correctly and you’re confident using the new system.
Can you transfer my patient information from my current software into Oryx?
Yes, we can convert your data from your previous software to Oryx. Please discuss the specifics of your current software with your sales specialist to ensure a smooth and accurate data conversion.
Can you convert my data and images?
Yes! Oryx can handle both data conversion and image/document conversion. You’ll grant us access to your current database, and we’ll use a copy of your information to load into your new Oryx account. You’ll receive a test account to review how your data appears in Oryx. Once you’re ready, we’ll transfer a fresh copy of your data over the weekend before your launch date. This ensures that everything is up to date and ready for you to start using Oryx seamlessly.
How is training done?
Training will be arranged with your onboarding specialist to suit your office’s needs. We offer hands-on video tutorials that you can watch at your convenience. Additionally, we have virtual training sessions available every day, where team members can join, learn, and ask questions. This flexible approach ensures that your team gets the support they need to effectively use Oryx.
